SI.com - Magazine - The Truth About Barry Bonds and Steroids ... The authors, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, describe in sometimes day-to-day, drug-by-drug detail how often and how deeply Bonds engaged in the persistent doping. For instance, the authors write that by 2001, when Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home-run record (70) by belting 73, Bonds was using two designer steroids referred to as the Cream and the Clear, as well as insulin, human growth hormone, testosterone decanoate (a fast-acting steroid known as Mexican beans) and trenbolone, a steroid created to improve the muscle quality of cattle.
- Barry Bonds' former mistress, who is at the center of the government's perjury investigation of the slugger, said she'll uncover the couple's relationship in the November issue of Playboy magazine. The 37-year-old Bell said the article will cover details of her relationship with Bonds that she told a grand jury investigating the perjury allegations in 2005 Bonds had recently remarried, but on this trip he was accompanied by his girlfriend, Kimberly Bell, a slender, attractive woman with long brown hair and brown eyes whom he had met four years earlier in the players' parking lot at Candlestick Park. Bell had been looking forward to the trip, and it was pleasant in many ways -- a big hotel room with a view of St. Louis's famous arch; a wonderful seat eight rows behind home plate; and even tornado warnings, which were exotic to a California girl. But Bonds was sulky and brooding. A three-time National League MVP, he was one of the most prideful stars in baseball. All that weekend, though, he was overshadowed by McGwire.

Jose Canseco says he and fellow slugger Mark McGwire were never "buddy buddies" as teammates on the Oakland Athletics, but had at least one thing in common that they talked about regularly: using steroids.

Jose Canseco was unrepentant about using steroids.

Canseco also admits in an interview with "60 Minutes" that he would never have been a major league-caliber player without using the drugs.

"I don't recommend steroids for everyone and I don't recommend growth hormones for everyone," Canseco tells Mike Wallace. "But for certain individuals, I truly believe, because I've experimented with it for so many years, that it can make an average athlete a super athlete. It can make a super athlete incredible. Just legendary."

The interview was broadcast Sunday on CBS, one day before the release of Canseco's book, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big."

Canseco said he and McGwire weren't close, but often injected together and treated the subject of steroids as casual shop-talk.

"Mark and I weren't really in a sense of buddy buddies," Canseco said. "But there are certain subjects that we could talk about like obviously steroids and so forth."

McGwire, who has repeatedly denied steroid use, said in a statement to the television news magazine: "Once and for all I did not use steroids nor any illegal substance. The relationship that these allegations portray couldn't be further from the truth."

Canseco also told Wallace that steroids give athletes an edge besides increased size and strength. "A lot of it is psychological," he said. "I mean, you really believe you have an edge. You feel the strength, and the stamina."

Canseco also says he introduced steroids to former Texas Rangers teammates Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez. All have publicly denied using performance-enhancing drugs.

"I injected them. Absolutely," Canseco said.

Tony La Russa, who managed Oakland when McGwire and Canseco helped the A's win a World Series, has stood behind McGwire's denial, telling "60 Minutes" that the first baseman got his strength and size from weightlifting and a careful diet.

La Russa was skeptical of Canseco's version.

"First of all, I think he's in dire straits and needs money," La Russa said. "I think secondly ... I think there's a healthy case of envy and jealousy."

"60 Minutes" planned to air more of Canseco's interview in its Wednesday program.

Baseball recently adopted a tougher steroid-testing program after the sport came under increased scrutiny about the drugs. Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield and Jason Giambi testified before a federal grand jury investigating the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative known as BALCO.

Athletes achieve a personal best in sex
There's a lot of sex going on in pro sports.  "You get a lot of people who are in shape and, you know, testosterone's up and everybody's attracted to everybody." There use to be a theory that athletes should Abstain Before Big Events. But if you are a sports nut as I am and have followed the great achivers in sports (Baseball, Basketball, Football, etc.) you will find that the great sport stars are promiscuous. No matter what sport it is you are going to find sport groupies who tempt athletes or athletes find them in club vip rooms. It's their sexual fantasy to get it on with a sports star.
Scientists say there is no physiological evidence to suggest that sex before competition is bad. In fact, some studies suggest that pre-sports sex may actually aid athletes by raising their testosterone levels, for example. "There are two possible ways sex before competition could affect performance," said Ian Shrier, a sports medicine specialist at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

"First, it could make you tired and weak the next day," Shrier said. "This has been disproved.
"The second way is that it could affect your psychological state of mind. This has not been tested," he said.

In 2000 Shrier published an editorial titled "Does Sex the Night Before Competition Decrease Performance?" in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine. He wrote that the "long-standing myth that athletes should practice abstinence before important competitions may stem from the theory that sexual frustration leads to increased aggression."

The abstinence tradition is particularly strong in power sports, such as boxing and football, in which aggression is considered a valuable trait.

Some people believe the act of ejaculation draws testosterone, the hormone of both sexual desire and aggression, from the body. "This is a really wrong idea," said Emmanuele A. Jannini of the University of L'Aquila in Italy. Jannini is a professor of endocrinology, the study of bodily secretions, and has studied effects of sex on athletic performance.

Jannini has found that sex in fact stimulates the production of testosterone, thus boosting aggression.

Scientists dismiss the idea that sex the night before competition has a tiring effect on the athlete or that it could weaken the athlete's muscles.

Lovemaking, after all, is not a very demanding exercise. In general sexual intercourse between married partners expends only 25 to 50 calories, about the energy it takes to walk up two flights of stairs.

Sexual activity could actually help combat muscle pain or other sports injuries in women, according to Barry Komisaruk, a psychology professor at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey.

His studies have found that sexual stimulation in women produces a powerful pain-blocking effect. The effect, he says, can last for up to a day in the case of chronic pain such as muscle pain.

"At least one of the mechanisms by which [sex] blocks pain is that it blocks the release of [a neuropeptide called] substance P, which is a pain transmitter," he said.

Komisaruk has also found that vaginal stimulation has a strong effect on muscle tension in the legs, increasing it in some women and decreasing it in others.

Anxiety and Aggression

Much less is known about the psychological effects of sex on athletic performance.

Some experts say coaches may be favoring the abstinence theory simply because they want to make sure young athletes get enough sleep before a big game.

Psychologists have shown there is an optimal level of alertness and anxiety that is necessary to produce the best possible performance. Too much anxiety or too much aggression may result in poor performance.

"If athletes are too anxious and restless the night before an event, then sex may be a relaxing distraction," Shrier wrote in his study.

"If they are already relaxed or, like some athletes, have little interest in sex the night before a big competition, then a good night's sleep is all they need."

The results will depend on individual preferences and routines, Shrier said, adding that consistency is key.

"In general, an athlete should never try something before an important competition that they have not already tried in lesser competitions or practice," he said.

Jannini, the Italian researcher, says the effects of sex vary among athletes.

"Some personalities need more concentration. In this case sex may be a bad idea," he said.

"For other athletes a bit of extra aggression could be the difference" between winning and losing, Jannini said. "In this case I would suggest a complete and satisfactory sexual intercourse the evening before the game."

If we take a look at baseball and all the great historical milestones - 3,000 hit club and 500 homeruns - guess what you will find a mistress behind the man. Remember Wade Boggs, 3010 career hits,  and now we have Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriquez. Since 1996 (his first full season) through 2006 A-Rod leads the major leagues in home runs (HR), runs scored, runs batted in (RBI), total bases and extra-base hits. Of all players in baseball history at age 30, he is first all-time in both HR and runs scored, 2nd in total bases and extra base hits, 3rd in RBI, and 4th in hits. In his career to that point, Rodriguez had more HR, more RBI, more runs scored, and more base hits than all-time leaders Hank Aaron (HR and RBI), Rickey Henderson (runs scored), and Pete Rose (hits) did prior to their 30th birthdays. He also shares the MLB record (and holds the AL record) for most home runs in the month of April, hitting 14 in 2007.

He has often been cited as the best all-around player currently in baseball.[1] Rodriguez is also known for signing the richest contract in sports history, a 10-year, $252 million deal.

As of July 25, 2007, Rodriguez has hit 499 career home runs. If he hits one more home run before June 29, 2008, he will become the youngest player ever to hit his 500th home run. This season Alex made headlines when he was photographed with a blonde identified as his mistress. Bonds Steroids & his Misstress
Barry Bonds' former mistress, at the center of the government's perjury investigation of the slugger, and said she will discuss the couple's relationship in the November issue of Playboy magazine.
Kimberly Bell, Bonds ex-mistress to tell all - BALCO tracked Bonds' usage with doping calendars and folders -- detailing drugs, quantities, intervals and Bonds' testosterone levels -- that wound up in the hands of federal agents upon their Sept. 3, 2003 raid of the Burlingame, Calif., business.
The Playboy article, accompanied by a nude pictorial of Kimberly Bell, is scheduled to hit newsstands Oct. 1. The 37-year-old Bell said the article will cover details of her relationship with Bonds that she told a grand jury investigating the perjury allegations in 2005.
"The opportunity was there, and I took it," she told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday. The photo shoot "was one of the most liberating experiences of my life."

Bell's decision to pose for Playboy was first reported by The New York Times on its Web site Monday night. She testified before the grand jury that Bonds once told her of his steroid use in 2000 and that he implied he started taking the performance enhancing drugs in response to Mark McGwire's pursuit of the single season home run record in 1998.
"He was very envious of Mark McGwire," she said from her San Jose home. "He never said that was the reason, but I know it was."

Bell testified about that conversation as well her relationship with Bonds, which lasted from 1993 to 2003. She also said Bonds gave her $80,000 in cash to buy a house, the proceeds of which allegedly came from a paid autograph session that authorities also are investigating as going unreported to the Internal Revenue Service.
Bell said she has not been called before the grand jury again, but declined to say if she has spoken with federal investigators since. Bell's appearance in the magazine can't help the government's case against her former lover.

Defense lawyers are widely expected to argue that Bell was a woman scorned because of Bonds' decision to marry another woman during their relationship. Her appearance on Playboy may only add fuel to the defense's case.

Bell said the photo shoot boosted her confidence. She declined to say how much Playboy was paying her.

"If I had more self-esteem when I was younger," she said, "I wouldn't have been caught up with such a rotten man."

Jose Canseco talks about steroid use among major league baseball players.

Barry Bonds denies steroid use.
After everything is said and done, Barry has overcome quite a lot of adversity. He is redicule and booed in every visiting ballpark. The press cuts him no slack and you hear story after story about his steroid use., but he has never quit in pursuit of his goal - to become the homerun king of major league baseball. Bond has never tested positive for steroids.
The steroid problem in baseball is a product of the league itself. Baseball's hiearchy and Baseball union had to know about the rampant use of steroids among the players. Reporters who cover the game had to know.
Jose Canseco, a former player and author of the book "Juiced Wild Times, Rampant Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big," was verified by the media. His steroid tell-all book has turned out to be factual.
Canseco hit 462 home runs in a major league career from 1985-2001. A few years ago, he claimed that 80 percent of major leaguers had taken steroids.

I love Mike and I cannot wait to see him again, especially now that he is single. He is funny and witty and I hope that he is not being fed some bull(stuff) from other people who do not want me to marry Mike Jordan.

I told him to do a clothing line for women. I wanted to wear some of his male Nike clothing after sex.

Tiger Woods is a class act. He defends his wife and has her travel with him, etc, etc. He proposed to her after a reasonable length of time dating her ... No Mike, has sex with me, goes back to his wife, comes back and has sex with me again ...

Now, that he is single, it will be interesting what he will do. Clearly, I expected him to propose to me by now. I am thinking of traveling to the Bahamas, a very beautiful place for his golf tournament next week.

Quite easily the greatest guard in the history of basketball (yes even greater than Michael). Magic Johnson's career is one of great accomplishment, and one of tragedy. Magic Johnson led Michigan State University to an NCAA title in 1979, and the Lakers to an NBA championship in 1980. Magic is the biggest point guard in the history of the game, and he always lived up to his abilities. Voted an all-star every season except 1981 (due to injury), he even made the team without playing a game in 1992 (due to fan voting). Magic made the First All-NBA team every year from 1982 until 1991. He was named as the Finals MVP in 1980, 82 and 87. He was the season MVP in 1987, 1990 and 1991. He held the assists record until it was broken by John Stockton. Had Magic not been forced into an early retirement, the record would probably still be his. He was forced to retire at the mere age of 32. Because he contracted the HIV virus, Magic had to retire in November of 1991. He attempted a comeback in 1996, but it lasted only until the Lakers' season ended in the playoffs in a four game sweep.
Magic was great, but he couldn't carry the entire team at the age of 37. He even enjoyed a brief stint as head coach of the team in 1993. But he soon learned that coaching was not for him, and bought out 9% of the Lakers' ownership and currently acts as VP of Operations. Magic never cared much for personal accomplishments, as he never forced the issue of his scoring abilities onto the team. It wasn't until 1987 that coach Riley said it was time to pay attention to Magic's scoring abilities that the focus came off Kareem and onto Magic. Magic usually averaged about 12 assists per game in each season of his career. But what seperates him from everyone else is that he made everyone around him a terrific player. When he was in his prime, he could get anyone an open basket, and shut down anyone with his defence. At 6'9", 225 pounds, he had unusual power for a point guard and he used it to his advantage. Magic's number 32 was retired, and he finally entered the Hall in 2002. Magic was named to the NBA All-50 Team as one of the 50 greatest players to ever play the game. But what he meant to the game can never be ignored. His rivalry with Larry Bird is what got interest in basketball up. Along with Kareem, he was the primary reason (again, he and Kareem were equal contributors), he won 5 NBA titles as a Laker. There will never be another player quite like Magic Johnson ever again, and that's what makes him even more, well....magic. Magic wrote a book where he stated that his promiscuous probally led to him contacting HIV.

2007 Penthouse Pet
July 24, 2007 -- KIMBERLY Williams, the June 2007 Penthouse Pet, has never met football legend Marcus Allen - and she wants to keep it that way. After talking on the phone for a few weeks, "he seemed like a really nice guy. But . . . I quickly found out that this is not a guy I want to know," the pin-up told Steppin' Out magazine's Chauncé Hayden. Kimberly was creeped out that Allen is a regular at the Playboy Mansion, and that his MySpace page is filled with girlfriends thanking him for "lunch." "So I started to pull away from him just to protect myself. But he calls me over 15 times a day! . . . He started to send me these terrible text messages. 'Where the hell are you, Kimberly!' . . . It's really scary . . . Things got really bad after I did the Howard Stern show. He got very upset that I got nude on the show. Hello! I'm a Penthouse Pet . . . I told him he needed to calm down . . . But he got even angrier." Allen's lawyer, Larry Stein, told Page Six: "It's the other way around. She's the one pursuing him. She started sending him pictures of herself with no clothes on. She's trying to get publicity."

The Heisman Trophy winner, ex-NFL star and actor lives near Miami and has been a tabloid staple since his ex-wife and Goldman were killed in 1994. Simpson was acquitted of murder charges, but a jury later held him liable for the killings in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Police said two firearms and other evidence were seized at a private residence early Sunday.

Walter Alexander, 46, of Arizona, was arrested Saturday night on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

Besides the two firearms, police said they seized other evidence during early morning searches of two residences, Nichols said.
"It was evidence of a crime that was committed," Nichols said. "And I believe we recovered some clothing that the individual was wearing in the commission of the robbery."

Simpson said auction house owner Tom Riccio called him several weeks ago to say some collectors were selling some of his items. Riccio set up a meeting with collectors under the guise that he had a private collector interested in buying Simpson's items.

Simpson said he was accompanied by several men he met at a wedding cocktail party, and they took the collectibles.

Alfred Beardsley, one of the sports memorabilia collectors involved in the alleged robbery, has said he wants the case dropped and that he's "on O.J.'s side."
O.J. Arrested - Las Vegas police reportedly arrested Simpson in a continuing investigation over an alleged armed robbery at a casino hotel room.Simpson was interrogated late Thursday following reports of a robbery from a guest's room at the Palace Station casino in which he is alleged to have played a part, Las Vegas Police Department Captain James Dillon told reporters late last week.Simpson was released without charge, but taken into custody again Sunday, reports said. The alleged stolen items included "sports-related products" according to authorities.

September 16, 2007
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday, three days after police named him a suspect in an alleged armed robbery of collectors involving the former football great's sports memorabilia, authorities said.

Simpson was arrested shortly after 11 a.m., Capt. James Dillon said. Police were still determining charges.

Several police officers were seen entering the hotel where Simpson is staying. A security guard said police took Simpson out a side door shortly after they arrived.

At least one other person has been arrested and police said Sunday that as many as six people could be arrested in connection with the alleged armed robbery that occurred in a room inside the Palace Station casino-hotel on Thursday.

Simpson, 60, has said he and other people with him were retrieving items that belonged to him. Simpson has said there were no guns involved and that he went to the room at the casino only to get stolen mementos that included his Hall of Fame certificate and a picture of the running back with J. Edgar Hoover.

Simpson told The Associated Press on Saturday that he did not call the police to help reclaim the items because he has found the police unresponsive to him ever since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were killed in 1994.

"The police, since my trouble, have not worked out for me," he said, noting that whenever he has called the police "It just becomes a story about O.J."
